Cheater no.8: Yelena Dembo

Cheater Yelena Dembo, former WGM and IM

I can't find proper words sometimes to describe cheaters. Well, how would you describe total trash using secretly computer against you on a chess site openly prohibiting it, moreover when she is in real life a FIDE titled player who should lead by example instead? Idiot or moron? No, because her brain has way stronger output and it would be seriously unfair towards mentally retarded people who aren't responsible for their poor condition and who are usually fair. Asshole? It looks better, however i am not sure whether this word can target women. Once i had a talk with my roommate about vulgarisms in English. He told me he had an English slang dictionary where the level of obscenity was expressed by the number of stars * behind the word or phrase. Only one word in the whole dictionary had the highest four stars **** obscenity level. Yes, this is endeed the proper word to describe Yelena Dembo's character in one word expression.

Our story can be seen from several perspectives. About four years ago, Dembo got busted from GameKnot chess site without publicly revealed reason, but it seems likely she used to cheat with chess engine to reach elite status. Why did she do that? She promoted herself as chess author this way: she wrote a book about Gruenfeld Indian Defense and she wanted to increase sales. After this "misapprehension", she became a Chess.com member. As titled player she immediately got free premium membership there and a place where she could promote her books, her's family Krinos hotel and offer coach lessons.

From my own perspective, it started in May this year. I had downloaded a cheat-analyzer a few weeks ago and i was curious how would OTB-skilled player's statistics look like. I downloaded her games, input them into analyzer and went to sleep. I couldn't believe my eyes in the morning! Yelena Dembo matched computer choices about 10% higher than expected! Just an explanation: +5% is widely considered as safe line to avoid false positives and some minor uncertainity coming from pre-game preparation with computer. I was stunned, but i reported her: I am realist in such cases and i don't believe in computer-like playing humans. Ms. Dembo simply let her Rybka play instead of her. Whether Chess.com took my report seriously, i don't know, but for the next 3 months, as usual, nothing happened. She became a target again later, repeatedly reported by other analysts and she was banned on 17th September 2010.

Her account - closed for cheating, unfortunately not available anymore

The end? No, because this puss was cheeky enough to threaten Chess.com with lawsuit! Just imagine! She got a free premium account, place to write her blog and promote herself, but she cheated and when caught she threatened with lawsuit. Chess.com owner decided to step back and removed the "for cheating" clause.

But let us remember forever:

YELENA DEMBO IS DESPICABLE ONLINE CHESS CHEATER!

  7. I have deleted some anonymous trolling comments which i had found libelous towards me, the blog ruler.

Cheater Yelena Dembo did break the no-computer rule. This has been proven repeatedly beyond any reasonable doubt. She is cheater and will remain cheater forever.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Libelous indeed! But what word should one use for a blog ruler who harasses young ladies using despicable and perverse language? Chess com made a mistake in labeling her cheater, and subsequently corrected it. You should do the same unless you really enjoy calling her names with four letters.

  9. Chess.com made a mistake indeed, but quite different one: they chickened when she threatened them with lawsuit. Thus i find it necessary to depict such cheeky trash Yelena Dembo & Co as despicable cheaters, which they indeed are. Unlike Chess.com, i am not afraid of any futile legal action nor face-to-face confrontation and i am going to continue and maintain my blog.

  10. You claim that chess com changed their ruling about Ms Dembo due to a lawsuit threat. If she can really be proved "beyond reasonable doubt" to have cheated, as you claim, then there should be no worries about lawsuits! But chess com realized that they had made a mistake and quickly retracted their claim. Your blog is obviously driven by frustrations that only some accomplished psychiatrist might be able to explain

  11. I am only waiting to have this blogger remove the discussion......

  12. Chess is a fine game. However, due to its intensity it seems to trigger perverts to flourish, as is the obvious situation here with the chess master Martin Zeman from the Czech Republic. We all admire your FIDE record, but....

  13. I tested Yelena back in May by the method introduced and used by RedHotPawn game mods, because i was curious. She turned out strongly positive. This can't be explained by the fact she has been strong chessplayer herself: benchmarks were derived from pre-computer CC champions and WCCC contenders, CC players way stronger than her. She was banned in September for cheating. I got angry at her, because she threatened Chess.com and kept telling lies to her fans. Her fans turned out to be dumb, never able to understand fair cheating detection. Wikipedia administrators have double measures, because they allow publishing drug abuse cases in athletics, however computer abuse in chess not.

  19. Again, the blogger removes facts from his site that do not suit him. Martin Zeman is a sick chessplayer, who cannot swallow the fact that young female GrandMaster Yelena Dembo is better than him. In his accusations, he uses indecent four-letter words that demonstrate the level of the discussion and the degree of perversion. Oh, sh_t, I am altogether disgusted!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Well, again and hopefully the last time. Yelena Dembo is CHEATER. Although she has been awarded with WGM and IM titles by FIDE and she is really strong chessplayer herself, she isn't worthy to be mentioned as chess master, because she cheated in online chess and thus she should be mentioned forever as cheater. I never played a single game with her, we never met in real and online competitions. AND YOU, ANONYMOUS TROLL, YOU SHOULD SHUT UP.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Mind you, Martin, this accusation is solely yours, a sorry chess player in northern Czech republic. Chess com has taken back their accusation when realizing their mistake. You will not, because of reasons only you can understand. I cannot shut you up, but I wish I could. Your denial of ever playing with her is, of course, your denial. We all believe......

    ReplyDelete
  22. Who is "we"? One single wanker sitting behind his computer screen and jerking off while looking at Yelena pictures? Unfortunately for you, i am not alone who found Dembo guilty. My "claims" are backed with hard data. I have saved them on my laptop just in case some idiot lawyer would harass me.

    ReplyDelete
  23. And that makes two of us....

    ReplyDelete
  24. The main point to me seems to be that the blog post itself is a worse offence than any alleged cheating in online chess could possibly be. Not being able to avoid words about females as is done in the text is on most peoples scales way below what you accuse mrs Dembo of. It is simply a matter of someone who is not capable of separating personal attacks from the subject at hand in a discussion. This is considered a normal behaviour by most civilized people. If one is not capable of making that distincion, and as an addition uses words as have been done here it is the main qualification for being an internet troll.

  26. This blogger really thinks that a chess Grandmaster and professional chess player would lower herself to cheat in online chess. The whole thought is obviously absurd, and the background of the blog is much better understood from the obscene text that characterizes it. No doubt, cheating in online chess (or in any other form of human communication) is despicable. However, Mr. Zeman's text about Ms. Dembo is a much more serious offense than cheating in a game could ever be.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Wrong! I am SURE she cheated indeed, and she lied and cheeked on top of it. Her moral credit and her honour are totally zero, no further damage can be done by my blogging, thus this blog post is no offence. You still didn't get it. She is cheater, she is liar, she is despicable cheeky beast, how can she feel insulted? How many times will i repeat it: 1) I have irrefutable proof about her cheating in my laptop, 2) i am not the only one who analyzed "her" games and found she cheated, 3) Chess.com's "correction" is the result of her unprecedented cheeky action.

    ReplyDelete
  28. No, it is you who do not get it, Mr Zeman. Completely independently of whether Ms Dembo cheated or not, your offense is to use sexually degrading libelous language on an internet site. And to many (most?)civilized people that is a much more serious offense than cheating in a game. Let me repeat: had you simply told the story, fact by fact, and objectively, and preferrably given details of the evidence of cheating, you would go clean in my eyes. But unfortunately, I have the feeling that you will not understand this point. Sorry!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Then let me repeat my question (see above in article): "How would you describe total trash using secretly computer against you on a chess site openly prohibiting it, moreover when she is in real life a FIDE titled player who should lead by example instead?" Cheating is serious offence, much worse than bad language, what do you think about athletes on steroids?

Moreover, i haven't written it explicitly, i used link.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I am not going to argue further about what is worse, and your use of obscene language on an internet blog is not limited to, nor justified by, a link to a four-letter word. Just ask your lawyer about which offense is punishable by law and which is not. And I mean punishable irrespective of whether your target is guilty of cheating in chess or not.

    ReplyDelete
  31. One thing I'd like to ask all Dembo defenders about is an interesting piece of circumstantial evidence. You must note her lack of vehement denial about cheating. She's yet to directly deny that she did. This is consistent with just about all other cheaters caught on chess.com. Ask a staff member, and they'll tell you that most caught cheaters don't even bother to defend themselves, knowing of course they're completely guilty. And please don't say that threatening a lawsuit is an expression of denial. That was clearly done simply to try and conceal the matter from the chess world.

    ReplyDelete
  32. You must be joking. I hope the real evidence is better and can face scrutiny. Also, a lawsuit threat is hardly an expression of compliance? If Ms Dembo had "denied vehemently", would you then have believed in her innocence? I don't think so.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I never said this was the real evidence. As incriminating as it is, the real evidence would be the fact that Dembo plays like an engine, something the best players in the world can't do.

Given the fact that all experts on this subject think she's guilty, you're right, I most likely wouldn't be convinced of her innocence. But you know what, it would have put a doubt in my mind about her guilt, because vehement denial is what innocent people do.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Thanks for your comments and the exchange of thoughts. My major point was not to defend Ms Dembo (I am not knowledgeable enough to do that, although I still doubt that she cheated), but to object against the obscene language and indecent personal attacks by the blogger

Good site Martin. I agree totally that she cheated. And I didn't do a statistical analysis on the games, rather a chess analysis. My elo is 2200 FIDE and I can tell the difference between cheating and just good chess.
It's sad that people like her think that she should cheat and judge that this action for the publicity of being a top internet player is worth the risk of being caught. I won't be buying her chess books.

    ReplyDelete
  45. My elo is 2400 FIDE and I cannot tell that difference. The claim is colored by hatred and fanatism, and is sheer bull's excrements

    ReplyDelete
  46. No, the "claim" (irrefutable fact) is backed with rigorous statistical analysis. How many times shall i repeat it? The ignorance of some readers is really astonishing. And don't roister with FIDE rating unless you introduce yourself. Who are you, you noname?

  47. Unnecessary outburst. The post was in reply to the one before by Hate Cheaters Also!

  48. Yelena Dembo cheated in more than 100 games, and that´s a conservative estimate. Not once - more than 100 times!
She can be really proud of her victories. Her actions are about as couragious as a professional boxer fighting a 5-year old.
While I don´t agree to Polar_Bear´s sometimes profane languague - Mrs Dembos actions are without doubt much more deplorable.
I am glad this blog exists, the chess community must not forget!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I had her intimately. Her breath stinks but I don't think she is a cheater. Possibly better than said analyzing pos.

    ReplyDelete
  50. How you can acuse without proof? I have proof that you are a shoplifter and so what? And you do this anonymously, so how anybody can trust you? BTW, I found your name on chess.com.

    MARTIN ZEMAN IS A SHOPLIFTER!!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I don't accuse without proof. I have double proof: (1) the banner of her homepage closed for cheating - see above, (2) analysis of her games.

I don't do it anonymously. I am trustworthy.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Yes, all Dembo lovers need to look at the facts before speaking with their bleeding heart.
By the way, you know that her Grunfeld book is just a rip off of Jonathan Rowson's one.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Polar_Bear, do you have an account at chessgames.com called 'Zygalski', right?

    ReplyDelete
  54. No. My chessgames account was Darth Lasker, but they blocked me and refused to unblock when I posted about the idiot cheater Dimitar Kacakovski. AFAIK, Zygalski is Steve Collyer.

    ReplyDelete
  55. This is meaningless, " Dembo matched computer choices about 10% higher than expected! Just an explanation: +5% is widely considered as safe line to avoid false positives and some minor uncertainity coming from pre-game preparation with computer."

You first need standard deviations for your normal games,

For example, your Normal games' "engine accuracy" may be 70% +/- 5%, and Dembo's games may be 80% +/- 5%. If this were the case, then her set of games would not be considered significantly different, even though her average was 10% above your normal set.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I am a bit puzzled why she would feel the need to cheat online "to reach elite status", when she already has that status through her OTB achievements.
After all, being one of the best female players in real life should suffice in itself to help promote sales of her products. I;m not suggesting she is innocent, just strange if she wanted to cheat when already a very strong player.
